Making, distributing and playing games has never been easier. Over 2.7 billion people play games, and hundreds of thousands more are being brought online every day [1]. Modern game engines like Unity, user generated platforms like Roblox, and emerging no-code platforms have enabled the game creator space to 25 million people in less than a decade [2]. The ubiquity of access and choice has helped to create a $336B gaming industry [3], employing, or providing income, to tens of millions of developers, designers and creators of all kinds. It is the fastest growing and largest form of entertainment. The largest segment of interactive entertainment with 2 billion players is low commitment experiences, in other words, casual games that appeal to mass audiences.
This immense growth has brought challenges between players and creators. Game developers are largely disconnected from their communities and rely on thick layers of centralised platforms to govern the relationship with their players. The unit economics of this triangle do not leave much room for a healthy creator universe and do not allow players to retain any kind of ownership in what they help create with their time and money. With the introduction of principles and tools of the web3 era, a new approach is becoming possible. But for these possibilities to turn into reality, there is a need for solutions that puts choice and accessibility at the centre of everything.
This is why we are building Infinite Arcade. The Infinite Arcade platform is the foundation of an ecosystem owned by players, game makers and communities that facilitate the discovery of games. Infinite Arcade allows developers to integrate community ownership and play-and-earn capabilities in their games without having to;
redesign the game economy,
create and operate a token economy,
interact with crypto technologies directly; and most importantly
worry about building and maintaining a community for a casual game that players wonβt play beyond a few months.
Our primary goal is to lower the entry barriers for the average studio making games for a large audience who are used to getting low commitment entertainment, whenever and wherever they want. To enable this for mass audience casual games, the biggest emphasis has been put into maintaining their free to play characteristics and allowing players to enjoy the games without the necessity of understanding and engaging with deep mechanisms around characters, items or any other game design components that are seen as synonymous to integrating NFTs in games.
Infinite Arcade makes this possible with the introduction of NFTs that function as non-utility access tokens. They simply allow players to sign in with their NFTs and enjoy the benefits of various web3 elements such as play-and-earn. This opens up the possibility of bringing existing games to Infinite Arcade, and going live within a day instead of having to integrate deep functionality NFTs into the game.
